Etisalat signs agreement to deploy ThingWorx IoT platform

Telecom service provider Etisalat has signed a framework agreement to deploy ThingWorx IoT Development Platform to enable new IoT and M2M services in Asia, Africa and Middle East.

ThingWorx, a PTC business and Internet of Things (IoT) platform provider, said Etisalat will be able to offer its customers a large IoT application catalogue to cover a variety of market needs such as Smart City requirements.

Etisalat Capex in Q1 2015

Etisalat in Q1 2015 said its Capex – focusing on network to address data demand and higher speed — increased 39 percent to AED 1,269 million resulting in Capex/Revenue ratio of 10 percent. Capex in the UAE increased 35 percent. Capex of Etisalat in international operations increased 36 percent and contributed 49 percent of consolidated Capex driven by consolidation of Maroc Telecom.

“After a review of IoT platform options, we have selected the ThingWorx IoT Platform to drive our IoT strategy and launch our M2M and IoT services,” said Khalifa Al Shamsi, chief digital services officer, Etisalat Group.

ThingWorx claims that its unified approach to IoT applications enables companies to innovate business processes significantly faster than conventional methods and tools. Accelerating time to value, reducing cost and risk are the main benefits.

“ThingWorx technology will be a core aspect of the Etisalat IoT Service,” said Russ Fadel, founder and president at ThingWorx.
