Comviva leads electronic recharge market in Bangladesh

Comviva announced that it leads the electronic top-up platform in Bangladesh with all leading GSM and CDMA operators having deployed Comviva’s PreTUPS, an electronic recharge solution.

On deploying the PreTUPS electronic recharge solution, one of the leading operators penetrated the low-income market segment by offering previously unavailable low denomination top-ups – which now constitute over 95 percent of all top-up sales in that market.

Our PreTUPS solution has received overwhelming acceptance from operators and subscribers in Bangladesh. Enabling payments and P2P transfers is a compelling proposition – especially in markets where financial networks are relatively weak. PreTUPS, operators are able to serve the lowest income segments of the market cost-effectively and thereby expand their customer base, which ultimately translates into a more thriving economy and greater economic growth,” said Milind Pathak, vice president, South Asia, Comviva.

PreTUPS performs electronic recharge transactions for over 520 million subscribers. PreTUPS has achieved over 20 million transactions in a single day during Eid. With prepaid dominating emerging markets and the majority of growth coming from these markets, mobile service providers require a proven, highly scalable, flexible solution to handle the growing volumes of transactions and the specific needs of particular segments.

For close to a decade, Comviva has supported rapid mobile communications adoption in growth markets with its PreTUPS prepaid recharge solution. PreTUPS addresses specific challenges of highly competitive, price sensitive markets offering flexible denominations, supporting and simplifying extensive distribution hierarchies to enable affordable, cost-effective service delivery.

PreTUPS enables electronic transfer of talk time, credit balance to subscribers for emergency situations, international airtime transfer and provide a method of directly and indirectly topping-up talk time in the subscriber’s prepaid account via various access channels, including STK, web, SMS, and USSD.
