China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom plan tower venture to lower costs

China Telecom today confirmed that it is in initial talks with China Mobile and China Unicom to set up a tower company to share operating cost and lower network construction.

The three main Chinese telecom operators are yet to finalize the equity structure and future plans, China Telecom said in a statement.

Years back, Indian telecom operators Idea Cellular, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone floated a telecom tower joint venture called Indus Towers to share their infrastructure and lease facilities to their rivals as well.
