China Mobile to introduce NFC phones

Telecom Lead Asia: China Mobile has got success in
developing the first TD-CDMA 3G smartphone that supports Near Field
Communication (NFC) technology.

China Mobile recently entered into an association for NFC
collaboration with China UnionPay, a national payments network of China.

China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile network operator
with 667 million subscribers and China UnionPay will work toward extending NFC
payments services to one hundred Chinese cities and service areas.

In 2010, the operator also acquired a 20 stake in
Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, which was aimed at
strengthening its mobile payment services.

At recently
held GSMA Mobile Asia Expo, the companies also demonstrated
their mobile payment solutions that included a service similar to
Google Purse.

The NFC technology can be incorporated into mobile phones
to perform functions such as paying for goods or swapping information.

With approximately 70 percent market share, China reckons
that NFC mobile phones will help it to promote its mobile payment services.

In China other two telecom operators, China Unicom and
China Telecom have also launched mobile payment branches. In 2011, China Unicom
established a mobile payment arm with registered capital of $39.26 million.

China Mobile to focus on cloud, network technology, Internet of
Things and Wireless City initiatives

At GSMA Mobile Asia expo, China Mobile chairman Xi Guohua
said the operator can overcome the major challenges by focusing on cloud
computing, faster network technology, the Internet of Things and its Wireless
City initiatives.
