China Mobile taps HP to power search capability of its wireless city platform

Telecom service provider China Mobile has selected HP Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) to power the search capability of its wireless city platform.

China Mobile with approximately 740 million subscribers as of July 2013 says the wireless city platform allows users to access information on public services directly from their mobile phones.

“Much of the success of Wireless City depends on the users’ ability to quickly find information and harness the full potential of the platform,” said Cao Yang, project manager, Wireless City, China Mobile.

HP IDOL

HP IDOL’s search technology enables Wireless City users to search through more than 8,000 applications for public service information, and receive more accurate results than ever before. Information available to users through Wireless City includes most public services, like public transportation schedules, public health records and traffic offenses.

HP IDOL uses advanced pattern-matching technology to understand key concepts in all forms of information, including free text, video, audio, image, social media and the web. HP IDOL retrieves all relevant information that is conceptually related to a query, going beyond search to help users discover information they may not know to look for.

In addition, HP IDOL currently powers China Mobile’s official website search features, and is in use by several provincial companies within the China Mobile Group.
