China Mobile 9-months revenue up 9% at RMB 383.8 billion

China Mobile posted revenue of RMB 383.8 billion during January-September 2011 against RMB 352.6 billion in the same period in 2010, growing at 8.8 percent.


 

The largest mobile operator’s profit grew 5.4 percent to RMB 91.9 billion during January-September 2011 from RMB 87.2 billion in the corresponding period last year.


 

Wireless data growth was one of the contributors for the revenue growth. The wireless data traffic increased by 143.1 percent in the first three quarters of 2011 compared to the same period of last year.

 

Wireless data traffic was 217.3 billion MB. Mobile internet traffic and WLAN data traffic were 112.3 billion MB and 105 billion MB, respectively. The number of SMS messages during the period was 549.7 billion.

 

 

Till September 2011, China Mobile’s subscriber base stood at 633.52 million. Out of this, 3G users were 43.16 million.

 

 

The increasing penetration rates of mobile telecommunications and the increasing changes in competition environment of the telecom industry, as well as the innovation of business models brought by technological advancement have posed challenges to China Mobile.

The group continues its market leadership with average monthly net additional customers for the first three quarters reaching 5.5 million.

China Mobile’s 3G customer base grew rapidly and began to take shape.

The voice usage volume maintained steady growth, total voice usage volume for the first three quarters of 2011 increased by 12.8 percent compared to the same period of last year.

Key services such as wireless music also achieved favorable growth. Mobile reading, mobile gaming, mobile video businesses have achieved certain scale. The favorable growth in customer base, voice usage volume and value-added business resulted in a steady increase of operating revenue.
