AT&T inks deal with Juniper, Brocade, Cisco for Network on Demand platform

AT&T
Telecom network operator AT&T today announced its partnership with Juniper Networks, Brocade and Cisco for enhancing the Network on Demand platform.

AT&T is utilizing Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies to create on demand services.

The first deployment will be a software-based appliance that enables customers to run virtual functions on one device. This enhanced customer premise equipment (CPE) allows flexibility and helps reduce costs.

“We’re working with equipment vendors to deploy the next generation of networking services. With the support of their technology, we can build and deploy new business services faster. Businesses can be more agile and cost efficient,” said John Donovan, senior executive vice president, AT&T Technology and Network Operations.

AT&T has rolled out AT&T Switched Ethernet Service via Network on Demand in more than 170 U.S. cities and signed more than 200 customer contracts.

AT&T is launching an additional Network on Demand-enabled service – Managed Internet Service on Demand.

Steve McGaw, chief marketing officer, AT&T Business Solutions, said: “We’re streamlining Internet setup for customers. They won’t need router hardware at their locations. The new on-demand service uses Network Function Virtualization (NFV) to virtualize routing in our core network and at customer locations.”

The company will be offering Managed Internet Service on Demand in select U.S. cities later this fall. AT&T plans to expand by the end of the year. AT&T will add more Network on Demand-enabled services in the future.
