America Movil reports dip in revenue after drop in mobile users

America Movil CEO Carlos SlimAmerica Movil reported revenue of 250 billion pesos (–2.7 percent), EBITDA of 78 billion pesos (–3.1 percent), operating profits of 36.8 billion pesos (+7.7 percent) and Capex (capital expenditure) of 66.3 billion pesos in Q2 2019.

America Movil in February said the telecom operator will spend $8.5 billion on capital expenditures in 2019. The main focus of its capital expenditures will be on installing fiber, boosting wireless coverage and information technology within the company.

America Movil’s revenue was hit by appreciation of the Mexican peso vs. substantially all its operating currencies. Service revenue growth, at constant exchange rates, accelerated to 2.3 percent from 0.8 percent in the first quarter.

America Movil generated revenue of 22.58 million ARP (+48.8 percent) in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, $1.123 million (+2.6 percent) in Austria & CEE, 89.92 million BrL (+1.1 percent) in Brazil, $605 million (–5.6 percent) in Central America, $451 million (–5.6 percent) in Caribbean, 212.171 million ChPL (+0.2 percent) in Chile, 3.101 million COP (+7.2 percent) in Colombia, $334 million (+0.1 percent) in Ecuador, 73.307 million pesos (+3.4 percent) in Mexico and 1.262 million Soles (–0.5 percent) in Peru.

Lost subscribers

America Movil has ended the second quarter with 278 million (–0.4 percent) mobile phone subscribers on its network. America Movil achieved 7.2 percent growth in mobile post-paid connections, while it lost 3.4 percent mobile pre-paid connections.

America Movil has 24.417 million (+1.5 percent) mobile connections in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, 21.180 million (+2 percent) in Austria & CEE, 56.427 million (–4.4 percent) in Brazil, 15.450 million (–3.9 percent) in Central America, 6.064 million (+5.7 percent) in Caribbean, 6.725 million (–3.8 percent) in Chile, 30.144 million (+3.3 percent) in Colombia, 8.356 million (+3.6 percent) in Ecuador, 75.994 million (+2.1 percent) in Mexico, 11.726 million (–7.4 percent) in Peru and 21.435 million (–3.1 percent) in USA.

America Movil’s fixed-line connections reached 84.544 million registering an annual growth of 1.5 percent in second quarter of 2019.

America Movil said its fixed-line connections reached 924,000 (+30.9 percent) in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, 6.172 million (+0.5 percent) in Austria & CEE, 34.800 million (–2.8 percent) in Brazil, 6.958 million (+15.4 percent) in Central America, 2.545 million (–2.2 percent) in Caribbean, 1.427 million (+4.0 percent) in Chile, 7.459 million (+7.2 percent) in Colombia, 409,000 (+9.0 percent) in Ecuador, 22.311 million (+1.9 percent) in Mexico and 1.540 million (+7.2 percent) in Peru.
