Telecom operator Bharti Airtel today said it achieved the 200 million mobile subscriber mark in India.
This new subscriber mark is as per COAI data till January 2014.
Yesterday, Bharti Airtel announced a deal to add 3 million mobile subscribers of Loop Mobile in Mumbai.
The company, which has presence in 2G, 3G and 4G, took 14 years to achieve the first 100 million and 5 years to add the next 100 million mobile users in India.
Airtel crossed the 100 million mobile customers mark in India in 2009. Airtel launched its mobile operations in India in 1995.
The Sunil Mittal-promoted Airtel is the only telecom service provider in India which has achieved 200 million subscriber mark.
Gopal Vittal, joint MD& CEO (India), Bharti Airtel said, “We will also continue to invest towards building a robust data network of the future and be at the forefront of India’s mobile broadband revolution.”
Recently, Bharti Airtel acquired 1800 MHz spectrum that will enable the telecom operator to launch 4G on FD-LTE technology in select circles in India. It will compete with Reliance Jio Infocomm, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular, etc. to grab wireless broadband market share.
Airtel has distribution channel spread across 1.5 million outlets, network presence in 5,121 census and 460,655 non-census towns and villages in India covering approximately 86.7 percent of the country’s population.
Airtel has the largest rural mobile customer base in India with over 88 million mobile customers (from rural markets).
