ZTE inks 10-year managed services deal with Euskaltel

Telecom network vendor ZTE today announced its network-wide managed services deal with Euskaltel, an operator in the Basque Country.

As part of the 10-year contract, ZTE will guarantee the telecom operator’s network quality, upgrade its technologies, and extend its services.

ZTE said 133 of Euskaltel’s employees will join ZTE’s service subsidiary.

As part of strengthening presence in Europe, ZTE will set up its headquarters in the Zamudio Technology Park in Basque Country, targeting telecom operators in Spain, Portugal and the countries in the south of Europe.

Alberto Garcia Erauzkin, president of Euskaltel, said: “Euskaltel did not select the cheapest solution or the solution with the lowest expected costs, but selected the solution that is best for Euskaltel’s technology evolution and provides the best conditions for employees.”

The broadband market share of Euskaltel in the Basque Country was 43 percent. This apart, it has 47 percent share in the fixed network market, and 60 percent share of the digital TV market. The company also started to commercialize mobile services in 2007.

Euskaltel and ZTE will establish the voice over IP (VoIP) service for Basque Country subscribers. It allows for the incorporation of all types of voice, multimedia and data services in a platform which can be accessed from any device including landline and mobile devices, said ZTE.

ZTE’s Global Services grew at compound growth rate of 32 percent, and the growth rate of managed services was up to 42 percent from 2009 to 2013.

The Chinese network vendor has more than 140 managed service contracts. Some of the clients include H3G Austria, Polkomtel in Poland, Jazztel in Spain, E-Plus in Germany and KPN in the Netherlands.
