Nelco Deepens Satellite Push With $20 Million Elveo-Linked Investment
Nelco has committed $20 million to Lunar Holdco through compulsorily convertible debentures, expanding its exposure to satellite direct-to-device and IoT connectivity. Lunar Holdco is associated with Elveo Mobile, the company created through the completed merger of Lynk Global and Omnispace. The investment is intended to support satellite-based connectivity and strengthen Nelco’s position in emerging 5G non-terrestrial network services. The deal provides Nelco with a pathway to equity participation in Elveo and aligns the Tata Group company with its combined spectrum assets and satellite technology. The strategy targets applications across South Asia, including IoT connectivity and satellite-enabled communications. The investment marks a deeper financial commitment to the rapidly developing direct-to-device satellite communications market.
Nokia Cuts 1,600 Jobs as China Telecom Retreat Deepens
Nokia is cutting 1,600 jobs and closing its Hangzhou research and development center as the telecom equipment maker deepens its retreat from China, according to a DIGITIMES report. The restructuring highlights the growing challenges facing European network equipment suppliers in the Chinese market, where domestic vendors have strengthened their position. Nokia has been reducing its exposure to China as competitive conditions, market access and geopolitical pressures reshape global telecom equipment supply chains. The Hangzhou R&D closure and workforce reduction represent another step in streamlining the company’s China operations. The move comes as telecom equipment companies increasingly reassess regional manufacturing, research and investment strategies amid heightened competition and a broader push for technological localization in major markets.
