Telecom vendor ZTE India is aiming for $800 million revenues in 2014. ZTE would spend Rs 62 crore on marketing. For comparison, Sony India would spend Rs 300 crore to promote smartphones.
However, ZTE, which sells smartphones and data cards to retail customers, and telecom equipments for telecom service providers, did not specify its revenue achieved in 2013.
ZTE, announcing its exclusive experience zone in Gurgaon, said it would invest $10 million in marketing and branding initiatives in India.
For comparison, Sony India is looking at investing Rs 300 crore in India to promote its smartphones in the country, the second largest mobile phone market in the world. ( Sony Mobile India to increase retail presence to 8,000 this fiscal )
Sony India MD Kenichiro Hibi earlier said the company would target revenue of Rs 3,500 crore from smartphone business in India. Sony Mobile is aiming to increase its retail presence in India to 8,000 in fiscal 2013 from 3,000 in previous financial year. HTC last week said it will double its retail presence to 7,000.
Despite telecom infrastructure sector witnessing slow growth, ZTE India registered a substantial growth with overall revenues accounting to more than $400 million until October 2013.
The telecom vendor says it would leverage from its strong position in the global smartphone market to develop products focused on three key segments: 4G, high-end devices, and phones based on newer platforms such as latest Android, Windows and the Firefox operating system.
ZTE India will continue to focus on strengthening its 4G: TD-LTE and FDD-LTE, bearer & transmission network, FTTH, medium-sized / Enterprise businesses and cloud computing in the next year.
Xu Dejun, CEO, ZTE India, said that ZTE exclusive zone in Gurgaon will also showcase the company’s limited edition smartphones, data cards and accessories. The company will set up many more stores in other high potential cities and will continue to invest aggressively in our terminals business.
