ZTE bags deal from Vinaphone for radio spectrum refarming

ZTE SDON solution
Telecom network vendor ZTE has bagged a contract from Vinaphone for radio spectrum refarming to optimize services and facilitate future network planning in central Vietnam.

ZTE will develop solutions for Vinaphone to re-allocate spectrum resources in the 900 MHz frequency band and assist Vinaphone to expand network capacity in the 2100 MHz frequency band.

Vinaphone will be using ZTE’s distributed software defined radio (SDR) base stations, unified MicroTCA platform, as well as new remote radio units (RRUs), and unified hardware platform and network management system.

ZTE will assist Vinaphone, the third-largest telecom operator in Vietnam with more than 26 percent market share, to reallocate some of its GSM-designated spectrum to provide universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) services.

The project is expected to complete in 2016, involving networks that cover around a third of Vietnam’s area and about 20 million users, said ZTE.
