Advanced Optical Technology for Network Modernization

As part of this network expansion, Vodafone Idea will deploy Nokia’s cutting-edge optical networking solutions, including the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform and CDC-F 2.0 wavelength switching technologies.

These technologies will enable VIL to optimize its network capacity and efficiency. Additionally, the deployment will include photonic service engine (PSE-Vs) super-coherent optics, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), and Optical Transport Network (OTN) to enhance performance and scalability.

Scalability and Cost Efficiency

Nokia’s optical transport solutions will allow Vodafone Idea to seamlessly scale its network from C-band to C+L band, ensuring future-ready infrastructure without requiring changes to the platform or architecture. This approach will help reduce operational costs while supporting increasing data demands.

Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

The deployment will also integrate energy-efficient solutions and automation-enabled processes, contributing to a lower carbon footprint. These enhancements align with Vodafone Idea’s commitment to sustainability and network optimization.

Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer at Vodafone Idea, said: “With Nokia’s advanced optical network solutions, we are excited to build an agile, high-capacity, and future-ready network that will support India’s digital transformation and drive innovation across sectors.”

“Our 1830 PSS technology will ensure their readiness to deliver multi-terabit data growth and support upcoming quantum-safe services for their enterprise customers,” Sang Xulei, Vice President and Head of Network Infrastructure at Nokia Asia Pacific, said.
