Telecom Lead Asia: Huawei has unveiled 480 Gbit/s router line card.
This is in line with Huawei’s vision to bring out innovative products to the ICT market.
According to Ovum, Huawei ranked No. 2 in the global IP market as of Q2 2012.
Introduced at the IP Technology Gala 2012, Huawei said the router line card is the industry’s first and features highest-capacity.
Telecom operators are looking for more efficient service channels to ensure superior subscriber experience and reduce network O&M costs. Mobile operators are keen to leverage the data traffic that is forecast to increase seven times over from 2010 to 2015, reaching 1.26×106 petabits per year in 2015.
Huawei’s 480 Gbit/s router line card enables a capacity of 15.4 Tbit/s per router and 48x10GE, 12x40GE, or 4x100GE line-rate forwarding per slot. Varied daughter cards and 10GE/40GE/100GE ports are available for flexible configurations, effectively protecting carrier investment.
Based on Smart Memory and Intelligent Frequency Adjustment (IFA) technologies, the programmable Solar 3.0 chips empower high performance as well as a record-low energy use of 0.71 W/g for the line card.
“The global 100G era is coming, with Internet traffic fast approaching terabyte level. 2012 marks the beginning of large-scale commercial deployment of 100G, with the launch of Huawei’s 480G line card expected to accelerate the development of the high-end 100G industry. It will help carriers build sustainable and efficient networks, combat the bandwidth challenges created by cloud application proliferation, and reduce network O&M costs,” said Gai Gang, president of Huawei’s Carrier IP Product Line.
Huawei has supplied IP products and solutions to carriers such as France Telecom, Telefonica in Spain, and SingTel in Singapore, as well as China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom.
Meanwhile, Huawei has launched its 16-port GPON line card. The new card doubles the number of PON ports supported by Huawei’s optical line terminal (OLT) products from 128 to 256, reduces the number of required OLTs which in turn significantly reduces the required floor space in the equipment room, and cuts power consumption by 30 percent per port.
