ZTE Corporation, a global provider of telecommunications
equipment and network solutions, announced that it is supplying a full-series of
D-WDM products and engineering services to Portugal Telecom (PT) to build a
D-WDM metro network throughout Portugal mainland and its islands.
ZTE Corporation is our only equipment supplier for new
D-WDM. This D-WDM network significantly raises fiber resource use rate,
improves network reliability and flexibility and reduces CAPEX and OPEX to meet
the demands for PT’s present and future services,” said a PT spokesperson.
PT is the country’s largest telecom operator with 12
million users in Portugal. To address rapid subscriber growth and the
large-scale deployment of new data services, PT has increased the support for
data services in recent years.
Growing bandwidth demand and flat network development
have driven PT to build an intelligent, maintainable and reliable D-WDM
transport network to face the traffic challenges from new services.
This rollout mirrors similar high-profile market deals
including ZTE bearer network products being widely deployed in the UK, France,
Germany, Italy and Brazil.

ZTE recently announced that ANTEL selected it
to assist in providing 300,000 subscribers in Uruguay with a Gigabit Passive
Optical Network (GPON).
