Nokia has been named a Leader in the 2024 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Communication Service Provider 5G Core Infrastructure Network Solutions. The recognition is based on Nokia’s strong “Ability to Execute” and “Completeness of Vision,” solidifying its position as a key player in the 5G landscape.

According to Gartner, Leaders in this category are distinguished by their comprehensive portfolios, which allow them to address a wide range of use cases, despite not excelling in every area. These companies boast significant market share, strong service and support capabilities, and good customer references.

Nokia’s 5G Core portfolio stands out for its fully automated and scalable software model, featuring near zero-touch automation and ultra-low latency capabilities. This enables the secure delivery of innovative 5G offerings at scale, alongside enhanced operational efficiencies.

As of Q2 2024, Nokia leads the market with 116 5G Standalone Core operator customers and 34 live deployments, according to industry data.

Earlier, Omdia named Nokia a market leader in its 2024 Core Vendors report, citing the company’s strong SaaS offerings and the highest number of live 5G core deployments.

Kal De, Senior Vice President of Product and Engineering at Nokia, said: “Our position as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant underscores Nokia’s continued technology leadership. Our cloud-native 5G Core architecture allows customers to roll out services quickly, securely, and without limitations in multi-cloud environments.”

Nokia’s investment in R&D in 2023 was 4 billion euros. Nokia has made an investment of more than 150 billion euros in R&D since 2000. Nokia has more than 6,000 patents for 5G standard. Nokia has filed 2,300+ patents for new inventions in 2023.

In 2023, Nokia said it reached 319 commercial 5G deals and had more than 710 private wireless customers, with 159 in 5G.

Despite losing the RAN business with AT&T in the United States, Nokia grew its Radio Access Networks market share. According to Dell’Oro, Nokia has increased its 5G RAN market share (excl. China) faster than any competitor since Q1 2022.

In 2023, Nokia announced new 5G deals, for example, with MTN in South Africa, Orange and Zain in Jordan, Antina in Singapore, Charter Communications in the United States, Eastlink in Canada, and Virgin Media O2 in the United Kingdom.
