Telecom technology major Nokia has showcased the use of drones to conduct rescue operations for first responders.
Nokia has showed — at the UAE Drones for Good (D4G) Award event in Dubai — the creation of LTE network quickly to connect between video camera-equipped drones and a control center using its Ultra Compact Network base station.
Nokia said its Ultra Compact Network provides a standalone LTE network to re-establish connectivity to mission-critical applications including video-equipped drones. First responders will gain from drones that can stream video and other sensor data in real time from the disaster site to a control center.
The control center in a disaster location analyzes data using Nokia Video Analytics technology to derive insights that enable decision-making for prioritizing tasks for efficient and safe rescue operations.
Nokia, a member of the GSMA Humanitarian Connectivity Charter, will partner with operators and NGOs in its initiative to help rescue operations, providing a limited number of its Nokia Saving Lives initiative. Nokia is testing the initiative with operators and NGOs and will demonstrate at Mobile World Congress 2017 (MWC 2017).
