Nextel taps Ericsson and Cisco to strengthen IP network

IP Networks from Cisco and EricssonNextel, a telecom operator in Brazil, has tapped Ericsson and Cisco to supply IP routers to strengthen its IP network for supporting traffic growth and improving performance on the mobile network.

The deal includes Cisco routers (ASR9010), supply and installation, overall project management, and customer support.

Eduardo Ricotta, vice president, Ericsson Latin America and Caribbean and Yvette Kanouff, SVP and GM, Service Provider Business, Cisco were instrumental in bagging the first IP network deal in Brazil, one of the fastest growing telecom markets in the world.

“Ericsson and Cisco are already suppliers to Nextel, and their alliance makes them good partners to strengthen our IP network. We needed a powerful and intelligent solution to improve our IP network in Brazil, and that’s what we have secured with this deal,” said Jorge Braga, chief operations officer of Nextel.

Ericsson and Cisco, after forming a global business and technology partnership in November 2015, has 300 active customer engagements. More than 100 deals, spread around the world, are in IP (routing and transport) and services.

Some of the IP network clients of Ericsson and Cisco include 3 Italy, Vodafone Portugal, Aster Dominican Republic and Cable & Wireless in Caribbean, Telefonica Guatemala and Vodafone Hutchison Australia.
