NEC signs microwave and IP/MPLS deal with Ooredoo

NEC Corporation has signed a global frame agreement with telecom operator Ooredoo to provide microwave communications systems and IP/MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) systems.

As part of the telecom equipment deal, Ooredoo Group’s operating companies located in 10 countries across the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia will be sourcing microwave communications systems and IP/MPLS systems from NEC.

NEC did not disclose the financial details of the microwave communications systems and IP/MPLS deal with Ooredoo.

Major technology companies in the Microwave backhaul equipment market are Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, ZTE, Bridgewave Communications, NEC, Dragonwave and Proxim Wireless.

According to a research report, the Microwave transmission equipment market  was valued at $4.88 billion in 2015 and is expected to reach $6.18 Billion by 2022, at a CAGR of 3.38 percent between 2016 and 2022.

NEC, a technology company headquartered in Japan, will provide support for the introduction of its microwave communications systems, including iPASOLINK, as well as the deployment of its IP/MPLS systems and provision of maintenance services over the next three years.

“NEC will continue to provide advanced telecommunications-related solutions to the Ooredoo Group as part of contributing to the sophistication and diversification of their communication services,” said Mitsuhiro Murooka, general manager, Global Corporate Sales Division, NEC Corporation.
