Chinese telecom solutions provider ZTE says 2016 will see the start of the big video era thanks to ever-changing media and telecom network technologies, plus subscribers’ constant pursuit of a better video experience.
The market is driven by the emergence of clear, bright and smooth ultra-high definition (UHD) video, represented by 4K, 8K, and virtual reality/augmented reality (VR/AR) and more.
Big video is not only a golden transformation opportunity, but also a huge challenge to operators worldwide, ZTE said at the official release of its whitepaper, “Big Video, Better Future – ZTE Big Video white paper V1.0.,” ahead of the Mobile World Congress, Shanghai.
Focusing only on big video service itself is not enough; rather operators should pay more attention to interpreting big video in order to gain insight into its multi-dimensional implications.
You Yan, VP of ZTE Corporation, said,“ZTE deeply understands the challenges to operators in the big video era. Big video is included in ZTE’s overall strategy, and will continue to be an area of investment.”
ZTE maintains the largest market share in the global big video market, the company claims. Today, ZTE has more than 80 commercial offices with the total system capacity up to 50 million and more than 80 international content delivery networks (CDN) projects with the total concurrency capability up to 30T.
The Jiangsu Telecom office with over 6 million users is the largest single office in the world. Telekom Indonesia developed over one million new users within one year, ZTE said.
In 2016, ZTE has signed several strategic cooperation agreements on big video with operators such as Shanghai Telecom, Beijing Telecom, Chongqing Unicom and more. ZTE and Jiangsu Telecom jointly established a big video laboratory.
