MF Farooqui joins telecom dept as new secretary

Telecom Lead Asia: The government has appointed MF Farooqui as the new telecom secretary.

Farooqui, took charge as secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on April 1.

He replaced R.Chandrasekhar, who retired last week.

Prior to this assignment, he was serving as secretary, Department of Heavy Industry, before which he was special secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

During his career, his other postings include that as principal secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu in the Industries Department. He has worked as joint secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Union Ministry of Finance.

In the mid-nineties he worked as Consul General of India in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

He has also worked as chief executive and member secretary of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.
