India adds 5 lakh mobile towers

Indian telecom operators have installed 5 lakh mobile towers including 4G, 3G, 2G towers all put together, taking the total BTS count to over 20 lakh.

Maharashtra has the maximum number of BTS units at 1,63,773.

Andhra Pradesh has 1,49,901 BTS units while Karnataka has 1,41,353 BTS units.

“With the commercial deployment of 5G expected by early 2020, everything will pivot on better connectivity, both in terms of quality and speed. For this to happen seamlessly, robust telecom infrastructure is a must,” Rajan S Mathews, director general of COAI, said.
