Huawei reveals achievements in 2018 backed by innovation

Huawei Technologies has revealed its main achievements in 2018 despite challenging market situation.
Huawei Technologies at MWC 2018China-based Huawei is expected to report 21 percent increase in revenue for 2018 to $108.5 billion.

Huawei generated revenue from three main business areas: telecom networks (49.3 percent of revenue), smartphone and devices (39.3 percent) and enterprise networking (9.1 percent) in 2017. The company is yet to reveal the revenue-break up for 2018.

Huawei has secured 26 5G contracts, making it the largest 5G vendor in the world. It expects its smartphone shipments for 2018 to surpass 200 million units.

Huawei has already shipped more than 10,000 5G base stations to markets around the world. More than 160 cities and 211 Fortune Global 500 companies have selected Huawei as their partner for digital transformation.

Huawei Cloud has launched over 140 cloud services in 18 categories. Huawei has 37 availability zones across 22 regions to serve global customers.

Huawei is the world’s largest telecom equipment maker and the second largest smartphone seller. It has come under international pressure this year after the United States and its allies including Australia and New Zealand started barring its equipment on concerns they could enable spying by China, Reuters reported.

Reuters reported on Thursday that the White House is mulling an executive order as early as January that would bar U.S. companies from using telecommunications equipment made by Huawei and ZTE.

Huawei in 2019

Guo Ping, Huawei’s rotating chairman, in his new year’s address to employees, said Huawei will optimize its product investment portfolio to achieve end-to-end strategic leadership.

Huawei will retain products that are competitive and appealing, and phase out less important products. Huawei will also cut down on the development of products that haven’t been competitive for some years now.

Huawei aims to develop the simplest possible network architecture, make transaction models simple, ensure the highest level of cyber security and privacy protection, produce the best products, and provide best services to its customers.

“Through a pilot project for contract approval at the rep-office level, we aim to inspire greater passion and increase the per-capita contribution of our teams in the field,” Guo Ping said.

Huawei aims to optimize operations and establish a new operating model. HQ will reduce control and delegate more authority to field offices. The focus of HQ will be in the preparation of budget.

Huawei will continue to use AI in its GTS, Finance, and Supply Chain to automate large amounts of repetitive work to drive efficiency and address practical pain points in business departments.
