Telia and Ericsson Launch 6G Field Trials in Sweden

Telia and Ericsson have launched outdoor 6G trials in Sweden, advancing their collaboration on next-generation mobile connectivity. The companies are testing pre-standard 6G technology using the upper 6 GHz frequency band to evaluate coverage, signal performance, uplink capacity, reliability and latency. The initiative forms part of a joint roadmap covering 6G development, network security, spectrum planning and industry collaboration. The companies also demonstrated early over-the-air 6G capabilities, including technologies designed to support wider channels, higher capacity and improved uplink performance. Their collaboration aims to build on existing 5G Standalone and 5G Advanced infrastructure while preparing Sweden for future AI-enabled connectivity and commercial 6G deployment.

ZTE and du Activate World’s First Commercial Upper 6 GHz Connectivity

ZTE and UAE telecom operator du have activated Upper 6 GHz radio equipment on a live 5G-Advanced network, achieving what the companies describe as the world’s first commercial end-to-end Upper 6 GHz connectivity using commercially available customer premises equipment. The deployment uses ZTE’s GigaMIMO technology and a 350 MHz bandwidth across the 6,775–7,125 MHz spectrum range. The solution is designed to improve network coverage, capacity and data speeds while addressing growing mobile traffic requirements. The milestone supports the UAE’s next-generation connectivity ambitions and 6G development strategy. Both companies plan further technical validation and exploration of the technology’s potential for future network evolution.

Maxis and U Mobile Revive Merger Talks to Create Malaysia’s Largest Telco

Maxis and U Mobile are reportedly revisiting merger discussions that could create Malaysia’s largest mobile operator. Maxis has invited selected banks and law firms to submit proposals for a potential transaction, while U Mobile shareholders are seeking a valuation of at least RM10 billion. The combined company could challenge CelcomDigi, which reported 20.3 million subscribers in the second quarter of 2026. Maxis had 9.98 million subscribers, while U Mobile reportedly had more than 9 million. However, the proposed merger raises concerns about reduced competition, mobile pricing and the future of Malaysia’s dual 5G network structure. Neither operator has officially confirmed the transaction.
