Huawei deploys LTE TDD Active Antenna Unit for China Mobile

Telecom network vendor Huawei today said it has deployed LTE TDD 8T8R Active Antenna Unit (AAU) in Hebei, China for China Mobile.

The improved AAU simplifies installation. China Mobile also benefited from improved the cell edge download rate by 55 percent in field tests.

Huawei’s AAU series integrates the antenna unit and the remote radio unit (RRU) in one box, removing the need for operators to install two units separately and reducing maintenance costs and the level of site space required.

For LTE FDD-enabled operators, Huawei has deployed its AAU solution in over 10 countries including the UK, Germany, Singapore, and Russia.

TD-LTE telecom operator China Mobile was the first to deploy Huawei LTE TDD AAU with 10,000 Huawei 4T4R AAU units in 2013. China Mobile is also planning large scale deployment of 8T8R AAU in the near future.

In H1 2014, Huawei signed more than 300 commercial LTE contracts and deployed over 140 commercial LTE networks.
