Hrvatski Telekom (T-HT), a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, is providing advanced broadband services to residential users in the Zagreb area of Croatia.

The new open architecture substantially reduces network and system complexity, improves operational efficiency, and enables new IP cloud-based telecommunications services for T-HT’s customers in a small fraction of the time.

Meanwhile, four telecom operators in the Asia Pacific region have signed up with Cisco for
IP transformation. The deal reflects Cisco’s growing presence in the telecom service provider business in the region.

Due to confidentiality reasons, the networking major did not
disclose the names of these operators. Cisco has a strong presence in Indian telecom market. It
works with Bharti Airtel, Tata Teleservices, etc.

According to Infonetics Research, Cisco is losing its market share in IP edge segment. Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, Juniper and even ZTE continue to take market share from Cisco in the critical IP edge segment (the sum of IP edge routers and carrier Ethernet switches). Cisco still commands close to a third of the worldwide market. The problem is that Cisco’s competitors are growing faster.

The Croatian mobile operator will benefit from converged IP and optical layers with 100G coherent technology; integrated cloud service centers, enabling virtualized network services and applications for rapid service innovation; programmatic interfaces aligned with the software-defined networking (SDN) architecture for real-time automation and OSS; and customer self-service management capabilities.

“Amid the ongoing convergence of technologies for the next-generation Internet, Cisco sees a unique opportunity to combine the best elements from optical, routing and cloud domains to enable service providers to more efficiently and quickly capture market opportunities,” said Surya Panditi, senior vice president and general manager, Service Provider Networking Group, Cisco.
