Fiber-Line taps DuPont Kevlar fibers to protect cable components

Telecom Lead America: Fiber-Line, a manufacturer of
fibers, has protected its new portfolio of cable components for broadband
communications and above-ground installations with DuPont Kevlar fibers.

The new portfolio of Fiber-Line is built upon Swellcoat
technology. Fiber-Line has collaborated with DuPont to protect its portfolio
with the flexibility and lightweight strength of Kevlar fibers.

“As populations and economies grow, they need
critical communications flow that is reliable. Kevlar AP provides a new
twist on an essential product to create a higher performing solution — one
that helps us make broadband cable more accessible to people around the world,”
said Thomas G. Powell, president of DuPont Protection Technologies.

Fiber-Line’s products for above-ground cables are made
with DuPont Kevlar AP, which provides 15 percent more strength and 15
percent less stretch to the cable. The new portfolio eliminates water
penetration, ensuring continued and reliable information flow.

“Fiber-Line and DuPont have worked closely together
on these protective solutions since our company was born in 1987. We know
DuPont Kevlar well and we’ve created a joint solution that brings a new
offering to the cable industry,” said Vince Pappas, president and CEO of
Fiber-Line.

The company anticipates that the fiber optic cable
industry is growing at more than 30 percent per year in key growth markets such
as Russia, Latin America and China.

Fiber-Line provides high-performance fibers and specialty
coatings for a broad range of industries, including fiber optic cables,
composites, industrial and oil and gas.
