Ericsson in NFV deal with Swisscom

Telecom network maker Ericsson today announced — at the Mobile World Congress 2016 — its deal with Swisscom for deploying telecoms cloud infrastructure and NFV of core network functions.

As per the telecom deal, Swisscom will deploy full stack telecom cloud solution for its core network functions, including Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN) from Ericsson.

Swisscom will benefit from maximized agility, improved efficiency and enhance performance of its network, while accelerated service launches.

The telecom transformation deal with Ericsson ensures a 5G ready core, and can scale to meet demands of the Internet of Things (IoT). Ericsson competes with Nokia, Huawei and ZTE in the global telecom network space.

Ericsson will supply Hyperscale Datacenter System 8000, Cloud Execution Environment, Cloud SDN and Cloud Manager.

Ericsson will also provide virtualized network functions (VNF) for Swisscom core network, including complete virtual Evolved Packet Core and virtual IMS which will be managed by the Ericsson Network Manager.

Daniel Staub, head of Joint Mobile Group, Swisscom, said: “The collaboration has already impact on main components like Radio Access and Mobile Core, now also on the Network Functions Virtualization, which will bring our customer additional benefits like simplified scaling of hardware elements as well as speed and agility in their product development.”
