Encore and USAT to offer secure cellular SCADA solutions

Encore Networks announced that USAT Corp. has selected
Encore’s IP+LegacyBANDIT line of environmentally hardened VPN routers for
broadband network solutions aimed at the public utilities market.

USAT selected the BANDIT to provide
the seamless migration of serial SCADA functions over legacy networks to
secure, encrypted, wireless IP networks.

USAT improves the efficiency of critical infrastructure
operations by providing, configuring, and installing durable, field-tested
communications systems designed to transmit data wirelessly for critical
infrastructure companies.

USAT is a vital technology partner that provides the
right combination of products, services and industry expertise built upon
experience with utility sector customers including numerous Investor Owned
Utilities (IOU’s) and electric cooperatives throughout the country,” said Tom
Kittle, Southern regional sales director, Encore Networks.

The BANDIT supports all variants of the SCADA protocol,
both bit- and byte-oriented, with encryption of all traffic and complete remote
management capabilities. The hardened construction of the BANDIT allows for
operation over wide temperature ranges found at remote utility sites.

The BANDIT ensures secure system data and SCADA
network connections directly to the Internet, secure Wide Area Network (WAN)
and/or Local Area Network (LAN), or commercial cellular data IP services.

We pride ourselves as a company that provides
communications devices tailored to solve our clients’ connectivity issues,”
said Rick Borsick, business development manager, USAT.

By adding Encore’s hardened BANDIT line to our product
portfolio, USAT is able to provide the solutions utilities need when connecting
legacy serial-based controls to an IP-based network as well as offering our
clients the type of communications redundancy that is specified by NERC,” Rick
added.
