Telecom Lead America: CenturyLink has utilized Ciena’s converged packet optical platform with WaveLogic coherent optical technology to modernize and upgrade its network.
This deployment allows CenturyLink to offer a range of high-speed services across its network which spans more than 50 metropolitan locations across the United States.
CenturyLink, the third largest telecommunications company in the U.S., offers cloud infrastructure and hosted IT services for enterprises. It has deployed 6500-based 100G networks in select international cities.
CenturyLink is utilizing Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform featuring WaveLogic coherent optical technology to support its in-region and national metro networks.
The 6500 platform will also offer integrated packet switching which will bring agility to the delivery of groomed CenturyLink’s Ethernet services to its enterprise customers. Ciena’s 6500 converges comprehensive Ethernet, TDM, and WDM capabilities into one platform to support cost-effective delivery of emerging and existing services—from the access edge to the backbone core.
CenturyLink is a Diamond partner in Ciena’s BizConnect partner program.
Ciena pioneered coherent optical technology with more than 20,000 coherent 40G/100G line interfaces shipped to over 100 customers across the globe, for a total deployment of more than 20 million coherent kilometers.
Earlier this month, The Utah Education Network (UEN) and the University of Utah benefitted from the deployment of Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform which provided connectivity between the University, its new downtown Salt Lake City data center and to UEN member organizations.
