Telecom Lead Asia: CA Technologies is targeting Indian telecom operators for deploying its Application Performance Management (APM) solutions.
CA Technologies competes with technology majors such as IBM, HP, Oracle, Compuware, etc. to gain market share in the telecom space and enterprise market.
The size of the global Application Performance Management solutions market — that is used by both telecom operators and enterprises — is around $2.2 billion. The growth in Application Performance Management solutions market in India is expected to be around 12 percent till 2016.
Market research firm Gartner says CA’s introduction of the separately licensed CA Executive Insight product enables it to provide visibility of application metrics and data to line-of-business and senior executives, which helps offset some of the concerns with the previously weak dashboarding capability in the APM offering.
Scott Williamson, senior director, Product Management, CA Technologies, who was in India recently, told TelecomLead.com: “Indian telecom operators will be looking at Application Performance Management solutions to deliver exceptional end-user experience.”
The challenge persist in leveraging real production data to improve capacity planning models to deliver a right-sized infrastructure to support business-critical application delivery for both telecom operators and enterprises, according to Williamson, who is responsible for driving product strategy and new product development for the APM market at CA Technologies.
It is believed that Indian operators such Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, etc. are looking for implementing Application Performance Management solutions.
Tarun Singhal, director — telecom, CA Technologies, says delivering better end-user experience — when all operators are offering mobile services almost at the same price — by ensuring the support to growth using underlying infrastructure continues is a big challenge for telecom operators.
A recent BlueStripe survey of IT executives from companies revealed that enterprise-scale organizations remain hesitant about deploying applications to the Cloud. 25 percent said their company had no plans to move to public or hybrid cloud, and another 56 percent said that while cloud options were being considered, no decisions had been made. Only 3 percent said that they have invested heavily in public or hybrid cloud deployments.
Abhilash Purushothaman, solution strategist, Service Assurance India & SAARC, CA Technologies, said that the Application Performance Management will enable enterprises and telecom operators to amplify their technology without over spending on needless hardware or cloud services.
In August 2012, Gartner said application performance monitoring has become a central focus for IT operations. Growth in spend continues, while the market is evolving rapidly.
According to Gartner, though there has been some convergence in the product offerings of CA Technologies, as well as in data sharing, there is a lack of a centralized construct for data convergence across network, system, and APM.
Gartner — in a 2012 report — said that workflow between the products is weak and complex, consisting of multiple user interfaces with click-through integration. Decentralized data sharing between products helps this weakness, yet undermines the ability to apply centralized IT operations analytics approaches.
Also, high prices and a complex product portfolio requires professional services or consulting assistance, thus further increasing the price of the solutions, according to Gartner.
