Broadband aggregation equipment revenue dips 1% to $2 bn in Q3 2014

The global broadband aggregation equipment market revenue from DSL, PON, and Ethernet FTTH declined 1 percent to $2 billion in Q3 2014 from Q2 2014, said Infonetics Research.

The telecom research report noted that spending on broadband aggregation gear increased in Asia Pacific and North America, but declined in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) and CALA (Caribbean and Latin America).

Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, and ZTE are some of the leading players in the global broadband aggregation equipment market.

The report said Connect America Fund (CAF) projects will bring some revenue in North American broadband market. However, the plans by AT&T and other service providers to halt broadband rollouts due to less clarity on net neutrality legislation may be bad news for the global broadband equipment industry.

PON (passive optical network) market rose 20 percent globally in Q3 2014 from the year-ago third quarter. The 1 percent sequential growth in PON was led by 2.5G GPON ONT increases in North America.

DSL aggregation equipment revenue dipped 6 percent quarter-over-quarter.
