Telecom network vendor Alcatel-Lucent announced its 100G deal with AIS, a telecom operator in Thailand, to build optical transport network to meet data capacity needs.
As per the 100G deal, AIS will combine Alcatel-Lucent’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) optical platform with the existing 10G optical network. The deployment of the 100G network will assist AIS to transform the network, allowing AIS to provide ultra-broadband Internet access.
Alcatel-Lucent, which is upgrading the AIS telecom network from Bangkok and out to the North and Northeast regions of Thailand, said the work will be completed during the first half of 2015.

The telecom network vendor is also supplying its 1830 PSS platform and single-carrier 100G/200G DWDM optical linecard, allowing AIS to evolve its transport network capacity from 10G to 100G, and 200G in the future, without additional investment in hardware.
Alcatel-Lucent’s 100G/200G technology will provide critical resiliency, as well as auto-restoration features based on a Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) control plane offering improved reliability and uninterrupted quality of experience for customers.
Wavelength Tracker will enable the Thailand telecom operator to better manage its network as it automatically monitors and adjusts wavelengths and power levels at any point in the network to isolate faults, monitor performance and correlate alarms.
