Adtran opens engineering facility in Hyderabad

Telecom Lead Asia: Adtran has recently opened its engineering facility in
Hyderabad, India.

The center, as part of the expansion of Adtran’s research and development capabilities, will increase its global reach.

Adtran has increased its research and development expenses by 32 percent in Q4 2012.

Adtran, alongside its regional partners, has been engaged in R&D activities in Hyderabad for over six years.

The new center will initially employ approximately 30 engineers focusing on telecom hardware and software design, development, qualification and maintenance.

Gouri Shanker, head India Design Center Adtran Networks India, says the new center will increase engineering responsibilities for its products and customer base, including design and development, product qualification, maintenance and customer support.

Recently, Adtran said its fourth-quarter earnings plunged 87 percent as the networking and communications equipment company recorded a double-digit drop in revenue.

The company’s results have been hurt by a challenging spending environment stemming from macroeconomic and regulatory concerns. Adtran continues to see delays in project rollouts and a decrease in legacy product sales in the U.S. carrier market.

For the fourth quarter, Adtran reported profit of $4 million versus $31.2 million. Sales dropped 20 percent to $139.8 million.
