Qualcomm, Sohu demo TD-LTE Broadcast in China

Qualcomm Technologies in association with Sohu, an online media, search and mobile service, has demonstrated LTE-TDD Broadcast in China, featuring video coding and dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) technologies.

The demonstration in Shenzhen, China, utilized devices on Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processors and Qualcomm Gobi modems, and was supported by QTI’s LTE Broadcast solution for the evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) platform.

LTE Broadcast enables telecom operators to efficiently manage their spectrum and network loads by delivering content such as live sporting events, breaking news or software updates simultaneously, said Qualcomm.

LTE Broadcast utilizes standard LTE network architecture and modems, helping simplify implementation and saving costs.

LTE Broadcast solution is available in certain Snapdragon chipsets and supported through QTI’s optional LTE Broadcast middleware. The chip vendor has already tested LTE Broadcast solution tested among the major infrastructure vendors over the past three years.

LTE Broadcast is commercially available in Korea, and is expected to begin arriving in China and other regions around the world later this year, said Qualcomm.
