Intel to buy Mindspeed’s wireless infrastructure business

Chip vendor Intel has signed a deal to buy Mindspeed Technologies’ wireless infrastructure business.

The move follows the agreement to merge Mindspeed Technologies with M/A-COM Technology Solutions Holdings.

The transaction is expected to close in February 2014 and is subject to satisfaction of various closing conditions, said Intel.

Intel Communications and Storage Infrastructure Group vice president and general manager Rose Schooler said in a blog post that through this acquisition, Intel will gain a wireless infrastructure team with deep experience in delivering signal processing-related technologies and IP for base stations.

The company’s low-power system-on-chip (SoC) products are used to drive video, voice and data applications across fiber-optic networks and enable advanced processing for 3G and long-term evolution (LTE) mobile networks.
