Sprint, Verizon to bring 5.9-inch 4G LTE phone HTC One Max

American telecom service providers — Sprint and Verizon Wireless — will launch HTC One Max that has a 5.9-inch (15 centimetre) high-definition screen and can run on 4G LTE networks.

“With the dynamic features available on HTC One Max, we know customers will be enjoying heavy amounts of data. While other wireless providers move away from unlimited service, Sprint stands behind its commitment with Sprint Unlimited Guarantee, allowing our customers to lock-in unlimited talk, text and data, while on the Sprint network, not for just the next two years, but for the life of the line of service,” said David Owens, head of Product, Sprint.

HTC has a long relationship with Reliance Communications in India. Reliance, which tied up with Apple to bring Apple iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, is likely to unveil HTC One Max on its network in the country. But there is no official confirmation from both HTC India and Reliance, one of the leading 3G operators.

For the Taiwanese device maker, HTC One Max is one of the last attempts to recover its lost smartphone market share. HTC made a loss of around $100 million in the third quarter of the current year.

HTC One Max does not offer many innovations. In fact, HTC copied Apple by launching HTC One Max with fingerprint sensor to boost security.

The latest smartphone that uses quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor featuring a 1.7 GHz CPU and Google Android 4.3 operating system looks similar to HTC One and HTC One mini. This reflects HTC’s lack of interest in bringing innovative phones.

HTC on Monday said its handset can automatically start an application according to which finger is scanned. Its fingerprint sensor is on the back of the device while Apple’s is on the front.

One Max will feature HTC’s ultrapixel camera technology, first unveiled with its HTC One in February.

The company is yet to announce the price of the new smartphone.

“The addition of the HTC One max means that we now have an HTC One phone for everyone. The family has been built on quality and game-changing innovations and the HTC One max is certainly no exception,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation.

“The upgrade to HTC Sense 5.5 will provide our most amazing mobile experience yet, with the HTC One max delivering the size and power required to do everything you want, and more, without compromise.”
