By Telecom Lead Team: Smartphone major Samsung is going to unveil its Galaxy
smartphone portfolio with the launch of Galaxy S III in the month of April this
year, according to ZDNet Korea.
However, the technology company hasn’t made any official
announcement and is reportedly planning a huge campaign in the United
Kingdom, one of the Galaxy S III’s initial launch markets, and the focus of the
ad blitz will be this year’s Summer Olympics, which will take place in London.
With the launch of Galaxy S III, the company will also be
introducing its Samsung Card application. ZDNet Korea claims to have confirmed
the time frame with Cheil Worldwide, Samsung’s marketing and advertising
agency.
Samsung’s motivation for not revealing the GS III at MWC
is said to have been so that its competitors don’t see and copy its latest
design before the company is ready to release the product.
The company is straightway planning to compete with
Apple’s iPhone 5, which is also scheduled to launch later this year.
The to-be-launched smartphone could have a 4.8-inch 1080p
high-definition display, a 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor, an
8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, a ceramic case,
embedded 4G LTE and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Samsung is
currently the world’s leading smartphone vendor due to the success of its
Android-powered Galaxy S2 model. Samsung has been aggressively leveraging this
leadership to attack rivals with much weaker smartphone portfolios such as
Nokia, Blackberry and even Apple, according to Strategy Analytics.
During Q3 2011, Samsung has overtaken Apple to
lead the smartphone shipments. Samsung smartphone shipments reached 27.8
million. By comparison, Apple shipments during the period were 17.1 million.
The new addition in the Galaxy portfolio will further
help Samsung in accelerating its global shipments and smartphone market share.
