AT&T Launches Build-A-Plan With Custom Wireless Options Starting at $15 per Month

AT&T has unveiled Build-A-Plan, a new customizable wireless offering that allows consumers to tailor their mobile service month by month based on budget, data usage, and feature preferences. The new wireless plan will officially launch on May 27 and starts at $15 per month, excluding taxes and fees.

The biggest change from AT&T is the shift toward a flexible, modular pricing model instead of traditional bundled wireless packages. Customers can adjust their plan every month, adding more data, premium streaming, or extra connectivity features when needed without committing to a long-term fixed structure.

AT&T said Build-A-Plan is designed for consumers looking for affordability and financial flexibility as mobile service costs continue to rise. The company is positioning the service as an alternative to what it describes as “one-size-fits-all” wireless plans offered by rival carriers.

Jenifer Robertson, executive vice president and general manager of AT&T Consumer, said customers increasingly want wireless plans that match their lifestyle and spending priorities instead of paying for bundled services they may not use.

The new Build-A-Plan service connects users to AT&T’s wireless network and includes unlimited talk and text across the United States. The base package comes with 1GB of high-speed data for a 30-day term. After the high-speed data limit is reached, speeds are reduced to a maximum of 128 Kbps for the remainder of the billing cycle.

Customers can purchase higher 30-day data tiers, though upgraded tiers replace existing allowances rather than adding additional data. Mobile hotspot functionality is not included in the standard package but can be added separately.

AT&T is also introducing flexible video streaming controls within Build-A-Plan. Customers who do not select the high-definition streaming option will receive standard-definition streaming capped at 2 Mbps on compatible 5G devices or 1.5 Mbps on other devices.

Another key requirement is that subscribers must use their own unlocked, eSIM-compatible smartphones that work on the AT&T network. The company is limiting the service to one device per account.

The Build-A-Plan initiative reflects a broader telecom industry trend toward prepaid-style flexibility, lower-cost digital plans, and customer-controlled service customization. AT&T is using the launch to strengthen its value-focused wireless portfolio while leveraging its network scale and nationwide 5G coverage.
