Samsung targets Apple with ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge, a slim yet powerful addition to the Galaxy S series, featuring a 5.8mm titanium body and weighing just 163 grams. Equipped with a 200MP AI-enabled camera, the S25 Edge excels in low-light photography and macro shots.

Galaxy S25 Edge is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform and integrates advanced AI for enhanced performance and personalized experiences. The device also includes AI-powered editing tools and robust privacy protection through Samsung Knox Vault. Samsung’s emphasis on sleek design, camera innovation, and AI integration sets the S25 Edge apart as a category-defining smartphone.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, priced at $1,099, features a 5.8mm slim titanium body, emphasizing its sleek design and lightweight build amid growing market competition. It integrates multimodal AI features similar to those in the broader S25 series, positioning slimness as a key differentiator, Anisha Bhatia, Senior Technology Analyst at GlobalData, said.

Meanwhile, Apple is set to counter Samsung’s design focus with the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, expected to be even thinner at 5.5mm. While Samsung pushes AI-driven experiences and durable design, Apple may leverage its ultra-slim form to reclaim market attention, highlighting the emerging trend of ultra-thin smartphones as a strategic market play.

Samsung’s launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge, its slimmest flagship model, is a strategic move to capture the premium market by appealing to younger consumers seeking portability without sacrificing performance. The 5.8mm-thick device features multimodal AI for real-time interaction and a re-engineered vapor chamber for improved heat management.

By releasing the S25 Edge ahead of Apple’s anticipated thinner iPhone 17 Air, Samsung aims to attract consumers focused on slim designs, especially in key markets like South Korea, the US, China, and Europe. Samsung’s market share lead over Apple underscores its strategic timing and aggressive positioning.
