Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 comes with better battery, storage, screen size

Korean devices vendor Samsung Electronics on Monday said its new smartphone Galaxy Grand 2 will be available in India in January 2014 for a price Rs 22,990 to Rs 24,990.

The company will announce the final price later. The mobile industry speculates that the new phone will be available for a price of around Rs 22,000 in India.

Galaxy Grand 2 is the upgraded version of Galaxy Grand that was launched in India early this year and received overwhelming response from mobile phone users.

The new version of Galaxy Grand comes with upgraded battery, storage and enhanced screen size, Samsung said here at a press meet.

Galaxy Grand smartphone is currently available at a price of around Rs 17,000 on select online commerce channels.

The launch of Galaxy Grand 2 device is happening at a time when Samsung, which competes with Microsoft-owned Nokia and domestic manufacturers such as Micromax, Karbonn, Lava, etc. is gearing up to launch Samsung Galaxy S5 at CES 2014.

When the company launched the new version of Galaxy Grand, it focused on enhancing storage and battery to support its larger screen size.

Main tech specifications of Galaxy Grand 2 phablet include 5.25-inch HD screen, 1.2GHz quad core processor, 8GB internal storage, up to 64GB microSD card support, 1.5GB RAM, 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 1.9MP front camera, 2,600mAh battery and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS, etc.

Specifications of Samsung Galaxy Grand, the first version, include 1.2 GHz Dual Core processor, 5-inch Capacitive Touchscreen, 8 MP primary camera, 2 MP secondary camera, Android v4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS, 2100 mAh battery and 1 GB RAM.

Galaxy Grand 2 is one of the select phones to come with and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS when the global mobile phone market is gearing up to receive Android KitKat 4.4 OS.

Slimmer and lighter at 8.9 mm and 163 gram, the Galaxy Grand 2 will be available in three colours – Black, White and Pink.

It features pre-loaded Samsung apps such as Story Album, which can organise pictures by timelines; S Translator, the company’s proprietary translation service; and Trip Advisor, which offers guides and travel details.

The Galaxy Grand 2 also comes with Sound & Shot that enable you to record up to nine seconds of audio with your photos and Group Play, which lets multiple users play the same music or games together, or share the same documents.
