Marvell drives new rollout of TD-SCDMA smartphones from China Mobile

Marvell announced that four of the six smartphones
selected by China Mobile in its first round of smartphone purchasing are
powered by the Marvell PXA920 single-chip solution.

China Mobile is the world’s largest mobile operator with
more than 500 million subscribers. The wide adoption of Marvell’s single chip
solution by leading mobile OEMs rewards Marvell’s continuous R&D investment
around TD during the past three years.

“As the first TD-SCDMA single-chip solution
provider, Marvell’s inclusion in the newest and advanced TD-SCDMA smartphones
reflects the success of our long term commitment to China, as well as our
partnership with China Mobile and leading global mobile OEMs,” said Weili
Dai, Co-founder, Marvell.

“We believe Marvell has enabled a quantum leap in
the development and adoption of the TD-SCDMA standard and now, through our work
with other industry leaders, more than half a billion end users can experience
high-performance web browsing, social network, live video, 3D gaming and other
popular features on affordable, advanced devices including smartphones, tablets
and mobile hot spot devices. Marvell is proud to facilitate wider adoption of
the TD-SCDMA standard and we look forward to contributing to the development of
TD-LTE, which I believe is the key to mass adoption of this new standard on a
global basis,” Dai added.

“In the TD market, Marvell was the first company to
introduce a single-chip solution with multiple cores embedded. The technology
truly brings the performance of TD chips and the devices they fuel to a new
level, allowing us to rapidly deliver affordable TD smartphones and
RMB1000Ophone to the mass market. I am very pleased to see Marvell’s
contribution to the TD industry,”said Bill Huang, President of China
Mobile Research Institute.

China Mobile
has recently launched a series of initiatives to speed up the mass production
of TD devices and the process of commercialization, with an emphasis on a
centralized procurement of TD smartphones.

This is intended to boost the sales of highly customized
TD smart devices in China Mobile’s stores and support faster deployment of the
standard throughout the country. Marvell will partner with China Mobile and
selected mobile OEMs to complete a variety of pre-launch tests to ensure the
smooth deployment of the latest devices.
