Live: BlackBerry 10 smartphone is a major device for CIOs: RIM CEO

Telecom Lead Asia: Research In Motion (RIM) CEO says BlackBerry 10 world is personal with rich content. It is secured and encrypted. It is a major device for CIOs.

60 million users love BlackBerry Messenger.

Chat, which was done between New York and London, is amazing, RIM CEO says.

Heins, who took over as CEO nearly a year ago, says the focus for BlackBerry 10 is to help users stay hyper-connected socially as well as maintaining a balance between their personal and professional lives. “BlackBerry 10 will keep them moving,” Heins says, adding devices make jump to “true mobile computing.”

With BlackBerry 10, RIM is trying to regain its lost glory in smartphone market by competing with Apple and Samsung. RIM will also try to become the top operating system (OS) vendor. READ: TOP OS VENDORS IN Q4 2012

RIM feels that six smartphones being unveiled in 2013 on BlackBerry 10 OS platform will assist the smartphone maker to improve its position.

Recently, RIM announced that its new Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solution, BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, is available for download.

BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 re-invents RIM’s EMM by bringing together device management, security, and mobile applications management for BlackBerry smartphones, BlackBerry PlayBook tablets, and new BlackBerry 10 smartphones in a consolidated solution. It also provides a single console for managing BlackBerry, Android and iOS devices.

Ovum says BlackBerry 10 will not create salvation to RIM though the smartphone company will get a boost.

Two major factors have worked against RIM in the past two years: companies are no longer buying the majority of smartphones sold today, and individuals overwhelmingly choose devices other than BlackBerries when they make buying decisions. Both of these have depressed sales for RIM’s devices, and neither is going away.
