Google’s Pixel 8 Pro Smartphones Surpass Samsung, Set New Standards in AI and Longevity

According to Anisha Bhatia, Senior Technology Analyst at GlobalData, Google’s recently launched Pixel 8 Pro smartphones have outperformed their Android rival Samsung, positioning themselves as formidable contenders in the smartphone market.
Pixel 8 Pro at Google StoreOne of the standout features of the Pixel 8 smartphones is Google’s commitment to providing seven years of security and operating system updates, surpassing what Samsung currently offers. This extended support significantly enhances the appeal of the Pixel phones, especially during times of financial constraint, allowing for a longer shelf life of the devices.

Anisha Bhatia praised this strategy, stating, “Lengthening a device’s market stay is a clever strategy on the part of Google, which is following Apple’s example – long-lasting Google hardware will become enablers of its services, especially its artificial intelligence (AI).”

Google’s prowess in computational photography, a long-standing strength of the Pixel series, has been further enhanced with AI updates integrated into the Pixel 8 Pro camera. The addition of a Thermometer app, pending approval from the Food and Drug Administration, sets the Pixel 8 Pro apart from competitors. The app can measure body temperature, making it the first smartphone to have this capability, in addition to measuring the temperature of objects and surfaces.

Despite a $100 increase in price compared to its predecessor, priced at $999, the Pixel 8 Pro justifies the cost with enhanced power and efficiency, driven by Google’s latest homegrown Tensor G3 chipset and one of the largest battery capacities for a flagship phone, standing at 5,050mAh.

At the Make with Google event, Google’s AI services and Large Language Models (LLMs) took center stage with the introduction of “Assistant with Bard,” a generative AI version of its Google Assistant. This advanced assistant interacts seamlessly with other Google services like Gmail and Docs to find and summarize information, providing personalized assistance to users.

Google’s investment in AI technology provides a clear advantage over its hardware rivals, Samsung and Apple, positioning Google at the forefront of the ongoing generative AI race. The advancements showcased in the Pixel 8 series emphasize Google’s commitment to innovation and technology, solidifying its presence in the competitive smartphone market.

Google’s latest Pixel lineup was bolstered with Google’s latest mobile processor, Tensor G3, a custom chip boasting enhanced AI and machine learning capabilities. This empowers users to process more data directly on the device and in the cloud, extending the scope of possibilities. AI features embedded within these devices offer assistance in photography, summarizing web content, and blocking spam calls, enhancing user experiences.
