Eyeing Lumia growth, Nokia taps Zynga to improve its Windows Phone Marketplace

Telecom Lead Europe: In order to fortify its app store
and eyeing growth for its Lumia range, Finnish handset major Nokia has
associated with Zynga to bring games developed by Zynga to Nokia Lumia
smartphones and Windows Phones during autumn 2012.

The Zynga games include ‘Words With Friend’s and ‘Draw
Something’, which will available via Nokia Collection’ to Nokia consumers.

Although, Nokia will later make these games available to
all Windows Phone consumers through its Marketplace.

“The Windows Phone Metro UI will deliver an
outstanding user experience to consumers, adding more great gaming titles to our
rapidly growing portfolio from leading publishers,” said Bryan Biniak, VP,
Global Partnering & Application Development, Nokia.

The struggling handset maker is betting high on its Lumia
range, as it already scrapped its Symbian platform to support the Windows-OS
through its handsets. So far, the Lumia range hasn’t marked any significant
impact on the global market, due to weak app store.

The company reckons that the partnership with Zynga will
allow it to bring exclusive app and gaming experiences to Nokia Lumia consumers
around the world. Presently, the Windows Phone Marketplace offers around
100,000 apps to the users of Window-based handset.

“We constantly strive to listen to our players who
help us focus on the platforms where they want to play.  By partnering
with top global brands such as Nokia and Windows Phone, we are able to reach
more players with our franchise games,” said David Ko, Chief Mobile
Officer for Zynga.
