Coolpad is set to launch 5G ready smartphones in India. The company is also planning to invest $500 million in India.
Fisher Yuan, CEO of Coolpad India, said the launch of its 5G smartphone will depend on the readiness of the 5G network in India. “We are aiming to launch our 5G smartphones early next year.”
Indian telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, BSNL, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio are planning to start 5G next year. India will conduct 5G spectrum auction this year – to join the 5G league of operators.
Coolpad has already filed over 800 patents in the name of 5G. It has been granted 120 device-to-device 5G patents. Coolpad is in talks with chipset companies Qualcomm and Mediatek on the integration of 5G technology in its smartphones.
Coolpad, which has been operating in India since 2007, aims to invest $500 million in India in the next five years to strengthen its 5G presence.
