The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced that global semiconductor sales reached $46.4 billion in April 2024, marking a 15.8 percent increase from $40.1 billion in April 2023 and a 1.1 percent rise from $45.9 billion in March 2024.
These monthly sales figures, compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization, represent a three-month moving average.
The WSTS has also released an industry forecast projecting robust growth, with global sales expected to increase by 16.0 percent in 2024 and 12.5 percent in 2025. The SIA, representing 99 percent of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip firms, highlighted these optimistic projections.
“The global semiconductor industry posted double-digit sales increases on a year-to-year basis during each month of 2024, and worldwide sales in April increased on a month-to-month basis for the first time this year, indicating positive market momentum as we approach the middle of the year,” said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO. “Additionally, the latest industry forecast projects strong annual growth in 2024, led by sales to the Americas market, which is expected to grow by more than 25 percent this year.”
Regionally, year-over-year sales in April increased significantly in the Americas (32.4 percent), China (23.4 percent), and Asia Pacific/All Other (11.1 percent). However, sales decreased in Europe (-7.0 percent) and Japan (-7.8 percent). On a month-to-month basis, April sales rose in the Americas (4.2 percent), Japan (2.4 percent), and China (0.2 percent), but saw declines in Asia Pacific/All Other (-0.5 percent) and Europe (-0.8 percent).
SIA also endorsed the WSTS Spring 2024 global semiconductor sales forecast, which projects annual global sales will reach a record $611.2 billion in 2024. This upward trajectory is expected to continue into 2025, with global sales projected to hit $687.4 billion. WSTS formulates its semi-annual industry forecast by gathering input from a broad range of global semiconductor companies, providing a comprehensive outlook on semiconductor trends.
