Telecom service provider VoIP and IMS market revenue up 5% to $1 bn in Q3 2014

The telecom service provider VoIP and IMS market revenue increased 5 percent to $1 billion in Q3 2014, said Infonetics Research.

Product segments such as softswitches, voice application servers, CSCF servers, and session border controllers (SBCs) posted year-over-year growth in Q3.

The report noted that 11 telecom operators across the globe — in the U.S., South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore — have launched commercial VoLTE services.

Telecom operators in Asia Pacific and Europe are expected to launch VoLTE services in 2015; Apple’s support of VoLTE and voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) has accelerated activity.

Carrier VoIP and IMS equipment market in Q3 2014

VoLTE deployments will remain the most important driver, though wireline is still making strong contributions.

EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) and CALA (Caribbean and Latin America) notched revenue gains in 3Q14 from the year-ago quarter, North America was down slightly, and Asia Pacific declined after a strong Q2.

Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Genband and Huawei are the top 4 telecom network vendors in this space.

Diane Myers, principal analyst for VoIP, UC, and IMS at Infonetics Research, said: “We expected growth in the service provider VoIP and IMS equipment market to slow this year as large operators such as AT&T, Verizon, and NTT Docomo commercially launch VoLTE and utilize capacity on IMS networks.”
