U Mobile and Tencent Cloud Target Enterprise 5G and AI Services in Malaysia
Malaysia’s U Mobile and Tencent Cloud have signed a strategic memorandum of understanding to explore enterprise 5G and artificial-intelligence solutions. The collaboration will examine practical applications combining U Mobile’s new 5G network with Tencent Cloud’s cloud and AI capabilities for enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses. Potential deployments are intended to help Malaysian companies use high-speed, low-latency connectivity alongside cloud-based intelligence and digital services. The partnership is strategically important because U Mobile is building Malaysia’s newest nationwide 5G network, creating an opportunity to develop enterprise services alongside consumer connectivity. The agreement also illustrates operators’ increasing focus on monetising 5G through industry applications rather than relying exclusively on faster mobile broadband for consumers.
Xtremis Spectrum Automation Could Help Operators Expand 5G and Future 6G Capacity
Xtremis has won the US Defense Innovation Unit’s Spectrum Strike Prize Challenge with spectrumOS, an AI-enabled platform designed to automate radio-spectrum planning and coordination. Xtremis was selected from 43 respondents after testing at Fort Carson, Colorado. Existing military spectrum authorisations can require 75 to 180 days, while spectrumOS combines agentic AI, automation, RF modelling and real-time sensor information to accelerate planning. The technology also has commercial telecom implications. US wireless networks carried a record 132.5 trillion MB of data in 2025, following roughly 35 percent annual growth during the previous three years. Xtremis says automated spectrum observation and interference management could support more intensive spectrum sharing, helping operators increase available capacity for 5G, emerging 6G and other wireless networks.
ServicePower Brings AI Visual Inspection to Fiber Network Field Operations
ServicePower has integrated Vision AI into its mobile field-service platform to improve installation and maintenance workflows for fiber-to-the-home networks and connectivity supporting AI data centres. Field technicians can capture infrastructure images and receive immediate AI-based assessments against operator-defined quality standards, including in locations with limited connectivity. The platform supports passive telecom infrastructure such as poles, cabinets and splice enclosures, with additional equipment types planned. ServicePower says customers using Vision AI have achieved First Time Right rates of up to 99 percent and reduced trouble tickets by as much as 50 percent. The technology can connect visual inspection results with work orders, scheduling, dispatch, parts and compliance records, potentially reducing repeat truck rolls and accelerating approval of completed fiber-network construction and maintenance work.
Ericsson Demonstrates Fivefold Roaming Download Speed Boost with On-Demand RBO
Ericsson has demonstrated its Roaming Breakout service with Smart Communications in the Philippines, outperforming traditional home-routed roaming. In Ookla testing, Ericsson On-Demand delivered average download speeds of 405 Mbps compared with 75.8 Mbps for home routing, while latency fell from 632 milliseconds to 84 milliseconds. Upload speeds increased from 27.4 Mbps to 37 Mbps. In 4K YouTube testing, average buffering time fell from 0.6 seconds to 0.3 seconds and the drop rate declined from 14 percent to 7.7 percent. Ericsson said its cloud-based approach allows operators to deploy roaming user-plane capacity in visited countries without full overseas infrastructure. Selected deployments are planned ahead of broader availability in early 2027.
